Spicers Balfour Art 
The New Farm and Fortitude Valley quarter is to Brisbane’s art scene, what Paddington is to Sydney’s. There are more commercial galleries and art spaces in these inner city suburbs than in any other pocket of southeast Queensland. However in the early 70’s it was a very different story. Before New Farm became known for trendy cafes, gourmet food and a whole lot of coffee, Philip Bacon of Philip Bacon Galleries remembers there being very little indeed beyond a tram station and a coca cola bottling plant.
Philip who got a job in an art gallery purely to fund his passion for buying art has grown the gallery to have one of the most important collections in the country. It is from this beautiful gallery that visitors can begin exploring the exploring the 15 galleries in the area.
Just down the road on Brunswick Street is the Edwina Corlette Gallery which features a diverse range of artist working in a variety of media from photography, printmaking, sculpture, installation and street art. With a new exhibition every three weeks the Gallery is constantly bringing to Brisbane a fresh new artist.
And a little further down Brunswick Street is a place that is turning the tables on our concept of a modern art gallery.
Queensland Tourism Award winning five star hotel, Spicers Balfour has recently begun pairings its exquisite furnishings and beautiful décor with the works of top Australian and international artists.
