Tibrogargan Walk The Glasshouse Mountains in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland are arguably the most recognisable natural features in the Great South East and well known for their incredible scenery and world class bush walking tracks.
One such track follows the base of the rocky “gorilla” looming over the old Bruce Highway, now known as Steve Irwin Way: Mount Tibrogargan.
The Trachyte Circuit, named after the volcanic rock that formed many of the Glasshouse peaks some 22 million years ago, is a Class 4 track, a 5.7 kilometre return walk that can quite easily completed in two to three hours.
This circuit leads through open woodland and heathland linking Mount Tibrogargan and Mount Tibberoowuccum. Interpretive signs along the track provide details of the area's special features. The Jack Ferris lookout, on Trachyte Ridge, allows for amazing views of the surrounding peaks. The Trachyte circuit is a great way to truly take in the magnificence of this area without having to scale the mountains themselves. For all information on this and the many other walks in the Glasshouse National Park, get onto the Department of Environment and Research Management website.
