DEL El Questro Part 1 and Part 2 Rich red-earth, deep-blue sky, lush green vegetation and crystal clear water - the Kimberley Region of Western Australia, really is unlike any other part of the Country. It's an iconic destination, with an unmistakably Australian landscape.
Sitting at roughly the same latitude as Cooktown in North Queensland, the Kimberley is actually inside the tropics, which means the weather adheres to two very distinct seasons, 'the wet' and 'the dry'.
The effects of these contradictory seasons can be seen throughout the region, but nowhere is it more obvious than the evergreen Emma Gorge.
El Questro Wilderness Park, an adventure-reserve in amongst the Kimberley Cockburn Ranges, just off the infamous Gibb River Road. There are a number of accommodation options at El Questro, to suit different budgets and holiday options.
The Emma Gorge resort sits right at the entrance to the walk, with Safari-style tented cabins, where you get the feel of camping in-amongst nature, with the comforts of a resort.
A bit further down the road is 'The Station', which has a campground for tents, camper trailers and tour groups as well as bungalow rooms for people after a more solid roof over their heads.
And finally the Homestead is perched on top, and in some places arched over, Chamberlain Gorge. It's a full service full inclusive package with gourmet meals, drinks, facilities and activities all included.
In terms of access from Queensland, you can drive to the park, or fly to Kununurra, via Darwin and either rent a four-wheel-drive or organize a transfer to the resort.
The resort closes down during summer for the wet seasons, so plan to visit between the start of April and the end of October.
