Two Blokes and a Boat
RACQ has just released the revamped RACQ Online Trip Planner. It has a brand new design and has a layout that is very user friendly. It now incorporates draggable maps, point to point routing and can suggest places to stay, places of interest and give weather reports whilst on the move. The RACQ Trip Planner will also soon be available as an iPhone Application.
A good place to put the RACQ Online Trip Planner through its paces is along the Great Sandy Strait. It runs from Rainbow Beach to Hervey Bay and is bordered to the east by spectacular Fraser Island.
Inskip marks the southern entrance to the Great Sand Strait and is a great place to camp. Rainbow Beach Hire a Camp can make camping a very relaxing experience. The company sets up camps complete with gear and packs up upon visitor's departure.
At Poona there is the Poona Palms Caravan Park. It's right on the water and has room for caravanners and campers as well as comfy unit accommodation for families. There is also a general store located nearby.
At the nearby fishing village of Boonooroo there is a nine-hole golf course run by Glen and Julie Moore. There is also a licensed tavern on site.
A great tour of the Sandy Strait leaves from Hervey Bay Marina. Freedom Whale Watching runs the 'Day on the Bay' tour which takes in the best of the local area as well as stopping in at Fraser Island Pearls' oyster lease.
A good place to stay whilst in Hervey Bay is at the Australiana Top Tourist Park. It has room for campers and caravanners and also has very comfortable two bedroom family cabins.
Reefworld Aquarium in Hervey Bay has been operating for over thirty years. Its family run and guests are invited to feeding time for the turtles and those with a more adventurous streak can dive in the tank with sharks. There's also a restaurant on site. Admission into Reefworld costs $18 for adults and $9 for kids. And tots under 3 are free.
