Sean Leahy Sean Leahy uses pen, paper and a prodigious grasp of current events to create a daily cartoon comment in Brisbane’s The Courier Mail. His career of more than 30 years as a political cartoonist began at the age of 17 when the West Australian newspaper appointed him to the role: the youngest ever editorial cartoonist for a metropolitan daily. Sean’s cavalcade of caricatures over the years have included giants of politics – among them, Bob Hawke, Sir John Bjelke-Petersen, John Howard, Paul Keating and Kevin Rudd.
Sean also creates a national comic strip of motley Australian characters, “Beyond the Black Stump”. In May he travels to Blackall, the home of the real Black Stump – where he’ll be leading cartooning classes as part of the town’s Heartland Festival of arts and culture.
