A Trip Around Ballandean with the GPS Lady

Karen Jacobsen is a Queenslander who spent her school holidays at Ballandean, near Stanthorpe. She’s a singer and songwriter but most people would recognize her voice from just about every english speaking GPS device in the world.

She spent fifty hours in a recording studio to help create hundreds of hours of directions that are used all over the world. More information on Karen and her music can be found at her website.

GPS Lady

Karen’s family was very important in the establishment of the Queensland wine industry. Her grandparents started growing grapes mid last century and her Uncle Preben was instrumental in laying the foundations of what’s now a thriving local wine industry. Ballandean Estate Wines is a good example. They produce a wide selection of wines that’s available to visitors at their cellar door. Visitors can also enjoy lunch and a behind-the-scenes tour of the wine making operation.

Ballandean Lodge

Right next door is Ballandean Lodge, a good base if you’re planning to explore the Granite Belt. It has 3 Queen sized rooms, all with private ensuites. Prices for an overnight stay start at $142 and that includes breakfast.
