Rogaining Rogaining can be described as long distance, cross-country navigation. Teams of two to five people visit as many checkpoints as they wish within a set time period. The classic rogaine is 24 hours in duration; however, there are also shorter events of 6, 8 and 12 hours.
The only equipment you need is basic bushwalking gear, a compass, whistle, pencil, water bottle, food for out on the course and a basic team first aid kit. On 12 and 24 hour events, participants may also wish to bring along camping gear and, for night navigation, a good torch or a head lamp is required.
The sport was invented in Australia and has taken off around the world. The word rogaining is derived from the names of three of the founders, Rod Phillips, Gail Davis and Neil Phillips, who were all members of the Victorian group which organized the world's first rogaine.
