Roller Derby Roller Derby started in the 1940’s and gained incredible popularity during the 70’s. It was one of the first sports to be open to males and females since its inception - and its popularity among women, in particular, continues to this day. Whether they are drawn to the competition, the camaraderie or the fitness benefits, this dynamic sport has a loyal following in south-east Queensland.
Sun State Roller Girls, based at Browns Plains in Brisbane, have opened the door to women of all shapes and sizes with the invitation to get fit and toned while wearing fish nets and skates (fish nets are optional!). It’s fun, competitive, exciting and offers the opportunity to invent an alter ego.
If your curiosity gets the better of you, head along to one of the Fresh Meat Days on the first Sunday of every month. Lessons for beginners and intermediates are on every Wednesday night at 8pm.
