Old Government House The doors are now open at Old Government House, in the grounds of the city’s QUT Gardens Point Campus. This significant Queensland building has undergone intensive repairs and renovations over the past five years, and it has emerged in spectacular fashion.
Visitors are welcome to wander the rooms and halls, and watch stories from the early years of this stately home (and the people who lived here) being brought to life in a clever interactive display.
Entry to the building and its beautiful grounds is absolutely free, but there is an option to hire the venue for weddings and other functions.
In the courtyard is a lovely tea room that is full of the atmosphere of days gone by, and that will feature lamingtons on its menu. This is reportedly where the now quintessentially Aussie dessert was first created for the Governor, Lord Lamington, and his family.
