Dinosaur Trail Special Winton
In Winton, you can visit the relics of Australia’s largest dinosaur, a Sauropod named Elliot. He’s housed in the historical Corfield & Fitzmaurice building in town.
It’s also worthwhile to make the journey to Lark Quarry Dinosaur Trackways, located 110 kms from Winton. It is the only recorded dinosaur stampede on earth. Evidence is cast in the shape of 3300 fossilized footprints dating back 95 million years.
 Hughenden
The town of Hughenden is also considered dinosaur county. The most famous discovery is the Muttaburrasaurus, and you can visit “Hughie” at the Flinders Discovery Centre.
While you’re in the area, Porcupine Gorge National Park is 63km north of Hughenden and is well worth the trip.
 Richmond
They call Richmond the fossil capital of Australia. In town make sure you visit Kronosaurus Korner which is brimming with marine reptiles. The star attractions include Minmi, the well preserved dinosaur with its fossilized skin intact; and the Richmond Pliosaur, Australia’s best preserved vertebrae fossil.
If you get right into fossil fever, there are three dig sites in Richmond which are only a short drive out of town. And as a bonus, it doesn’t cost anything to have a crack at finding your own fossil!
If you want to follow in the footsteps of Dean, Bridget & Taryn, the best place to begin researching your trip is by getting in touch with Outback Tourism. They’ve got a fantastic free dinosaur trail brochure, or you can access the info via the website.
