Shady Tree Garden Shady Tree is a 1 ¾ acre property on the hillside at Buderim. It was bought by retirees, Dudley and Janette Persse, more than 40 years ago.
The Persses were initially attracted to it because of its massive weeping fig that was planted in 1918. Today the fig still towers over the property, which has been transformed with a weave of paths, terraces and sub tropical plantings.
Much of the work has been done by loyal long-term gardeners Yves Daniel and Lindsey Gerchow, who have tended Shady Tree for more than 30 years. Today, the property is owned by Dudley and Janette’s son Michael Collins Persse, who uses it for holidays.
Michael is known to many as the former History Head at Geelong Grammar, where he still resides as master-in-residence.
